Payer and Provider Mentorship: Lessons We’ve Learned

At 1501 Health, we’ve been fortunate to play a leading role in developing meaningful relationships and partnerships between payer, provider and startup organizations. The result? Startups scale faster, and the payer and provider gain earlier access to innovative solutions that fill the critical gaps in healthcare.

Experts from CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield and LifeBridge Health joined us for a conversation about this topic and shared their perspectives about what they’ve learned from mentoring startups in 1501 Health, how they’ve supported their growth and the importance of these relationships in the healthcare industry.

Listen to the panel discussion below or check out the highlights from the conversation.

Panel Highlights:

  • For startups, especially in value-based care, figuring out who pays can be challenging. 1501 Health provides guidance on how startups can create a sustainable business model today and what they should use investor dollars for so they can demonstrate their ability to deliver on an at-risk contract.
  • Payer and provider experts provide guidance to 1501 Health companies that helps them avoid preventable challenges as they look to integrate into established healthcare systems.
  • Healthcare startups can help fill gaps in the healthcare system, especially for underserved populations.
  • 1501 Health allows CareFirst and LifeBridge Health access to innovative solutions 3-5 years sooner than they would encounter them in the market.
  • Cabinet members (advisors) to 1501 Health cohort companies find the experience of working with entrepreneurs rewarding, energizing and overall, very positive.
